Dad and big sister

Over the past few days, we have been down to visit my big sister and have spent an entire afternoon with Dad.
The afternoon with Dad was great.  I honestly can't think of a time that I've had  more fun with my Dad.  He laughed at my jokes and smiled and allowed himself to have a good time.  Our relationship grew.  I was encouraged.
We were nervous to go to our big sisters house after that though.  Last weak my sister expressed to me that she feels like I look down upon her because of the way she looks, the things she doesn't feel she's accomplished... etc.  We had a 2 hour conversation about it and no matter how I tried to phrase he, she couldn't agree with me that I don't look down upon her, but see her on the same plane as myself...  namely, the forgiven plane.  Later that week she texted me and said that she thinks my wife deleted her name from Skype (implying that my wife wouldn't want to talk with her) and wanted to know what the deal was.  My wife didn't do anything like that.
It feels like because of our jobs our family in general has started to look at us differently.  They expect more from us in some way.  When we try to bring some sort of biblical truth into the conversation, both my wife and I get the feeling that even mentioning God, makes them feel like we look down upon them, when we are actually trying to encourage them.

Have any of you experienced this as well?  What advice can you give me about interacting with our families and hoping to encourage them with encouragement from the Bible?
